Look, Ma! No Allergies!

"What do you eat?"

With over 20 substance allergies, I answer that question a lot! Perhaps surprisingly, the answer is actually quite simple: "Just real food!"

'Course by "real food" I mean food as it was created by God -- not as it is often altered by mankind. I used to call mine “food allergies” but realized that many of them are not really food. Artificial flavorings, preservatives, nitrites added to meat . . . in other words, I have substance allergies – some of which are food (whey, gluten, yeast . . .)

Still, “real food” offers lots of choices! I do love to cook, so survival with allergies doesn’t disturb me – and, really, I have benefited from so much better health these past 3 years. I’m thankful for the allergies because of the changes my new eating habits have wrought.

Here's how I handle it. I start by shopping for only these things:

  • Grass-fed meat (mostly beef and chicken)

  • Grass-fed, farm-fresh eggs

  • Grass-fed, farm-fresh butter

  • Organic kefir (instead of milk, although I can get away with a bit of organic milk)

  • Organic, fresh produce (and lots of it!) *

  • Beans (dry)

  • Nuts (fresh, raw)

  • Seeds (flax, chia, and sesame work best for me)

  • Oils (coconut, olive, grapeseed, sesame seed, and Young Living Essential Oils)

  • Gluten-free grains (rice, quinoa, certified gluten-free oats)

  • Gluten-free flours (teff, garbanzo bean, coconut, non-GMO corn starch)

  • Misc. (Molasses, Blue Agave, local raw honey, Apple Cider Vinegar, sea salt, pepper, spices, baking soda)

  • Okay . . . and I do have to keep organic sugar and cocoa on hand for those chocolate emergencies!

* I'm sure to include ginger root, garlic bulbs, fresh herbs, berries, lemons, fruit, and veggies of all colors including root and leafy

Easy, don’t you think? No boxes, jars, cans, or packages of anything! No list needed.

I simply keep all those supplies on hand at all times – and then put them together in a variety of ways to create tasty, nutritious meals that keep me healthy.

Oh, and by the way – that list provides everything I need to keep my house and my body clean, too! No more shopping in those cleaning aisles!

Got questions? I’ll try to answer it if you ask!

Recipes and ideas will be posted here from time to time.
